The Grenadian Disability Association

Service learning in action...

I had the opportunity to visit the Grenadian Disability Association where I met so many wonderful individuals. Philda, who was my patient I mainly worked with, was a joy to interact with and teach. I went over seizure precautions with her since she was affected by epilepsy, and I also gave her further teaching on nutrition. Every member of the Disability Association had their vitals taken, and members who used assistive devices received instruction on how to use their device correctly to minimize risk for injury.

After each member had received one-on-one care, we had a more in-depth, lecture-style presentation in which we taught the group as a whole. We went over ways to stay active even if you are restricted to sitting in a chair, proper nutrition, and how to conduct a self-breast examination.

And we are airing in 3... 2... 1...

While we were providing care, we were surprised when the local news crew showed up! I got the unique opportunity to be interviewed and share about my purpose for being in Grenada and what I had learned so far since I had been there.
